My government name is Gloria, but my foster parents call me Rory! I’m a sweet old gal that loves to sleep and roam around the yard. The vet recently told my foster mom that I’m showing some signs of doggy cognitive disorder. What that looks like for me is that I wander a lot, which looks like I’m restless, and sometimes I forget how to do things I’ve done before, like how to go up the deck stairs to get into the house. I eventually remember; it’s just not automatic sometimes. I just started eating a new food that the vet recommended to see if it helps with my confusion. The vet has had a lot of success with it, so we are hopeful it can help me too! I also have arthritis that makes me stiff and makes it difficult to be coordinated and agile. I take daily pain medication to help me out. I walk and poop a lot because of this too, and also because I’m older. I can’t really hold my poop, so when I’ve gotta go, I’ve gotta go! That sometimes means I go in the house, on the driveway, or maybe in my kennel if I really have to go. The vet thinks this might also be from the cognitive dysfunction. I like to play fetch but only short distances for my stiff legs! I love treats and always get really excited for my food, only to go sniff it and find out it’s always the same ol kibble! I eventually eat it anyway, but that’s not going to stop me from acting like it’s a gourmet meal that I’ve never had before when my foster mom is making my bowl up! I’m a little hard of hearing and can’t see great in the dark. My foster mom says I’m the quietest dog she’s ever met! I never whine or bark. I don’t really pay attention to the resident dog I live with or the cats I’ve been in contact with. I don’t mind kids; I kind of ignore them too! I am well-behaved in the car and on a leash. I haven’t ever chewed on anything I wasn’t supposed to, and I am a happy gal if I just have a nice cushiony place to sleep! I love my frequent old lady naps. My ideal forever home would be one that is able to be patient with me and my aging mind. I don’t mind kids and other dogs, but I wouldn’t do well if they are always trying to get into my personal space; it would make me pretty anxious! The hardwood in my foster parents' house is hard for me to walk on; I need a lot of grip. So my ideal home would have lots of carpet or rugs! I can do stairs, but boy, are they tough. I would do better living in a house with minimal stairs. I wouldn’t do well being left alone for several hours at a time where I can’t go out to go potty. At night, I am okay; I can sleep and sleep if I’m comfy and it’s dark. Ideally, my forever people are home a lot or can come home frequently to let me out.
