Become a Foster

Have you ever thought about fostering a dog or cat? All of AHCR’s animals reside in foster homes so that they can have a normal life while awaiting a forever family. We depend on the generosity of our fosters so that we can take in dogs and help them find new homes!

What does fostering entail?

Fostering entails taking in a dog or cat that you think may fit in well at your house and taking care of them until they are adopted. We have a private Facebook volunteer page that you will be added to once you’re approved as a foster/volunteer, where you will see all pets available to foster. Only want to foster puppies? No problem. Only non-shedding dogs? We have a need for everything! We provide whatever supplies you need (food, beds, kennels, leash, collar, toys) and pay for all of the vetting (we just ask that you get the dog or can to an appointment that works for your schedule).

We also have a need for temporary fosters, who may take in a dog or cat while its foster family is out of town, or keep a foster for a couple of nights while it awaits transport to another rescue.

What happens if I want to adopt my foster pet? Do I get a say in who my foster pet is adopted to?

The great thing about being a foster family is that you get dibs on adopting a foster pet. We also send you potential applications for your foster pet so that you can help choose a home that you feel is a good fit for them.

How do I sign up?
